Dear Friendlies,
Thank you so much for coming out to Hetalia Day on Saturday and making it awesome. I'm destressed, but entirely
exhausted, and I have all you lovelies to thank for it (in the good way). I hope everyone else enjoyed the day and had fun, too. If you have something you'd like to discuss -- good or bad; a long speech or a few simple words; it doesn't matter -- please send an e-mail to
hetalia.nyc@gmail.com so we can make next year's meet even better than this one.
There were well over a hundred of us this weekend, and I would venture as much to say that we well and truly
doubled attendance over last year. Yikes! You all behaved so wonderfully; I'm very proud. What I'm also proud of is the change that we were able to make (and quite literally, because there were many pounds of coins).
One of the activities, so to speak, at this year's Hetalia Day was to raise money for UNICEF. Last year, some Hetalia Day attendees tried hanging out near the United Nations, and they were promptly dismissed. My pride was wounded, and I was determined that, this year, the United Nations would
not turn us away. The only way that would happen is if we would help them, and what better way than to fundraise for them? Together, everyone who participated in our UNICEF fundraising was able to collect over $440 to help needy children around the world get proper food, medicine, and aid. Let me say that again, with sparkle text because it's important (apologies if I ruin any friends pages):

You have no idea how grateful I am for your efforts, and you should all feel
very proud of yourselves. No, really. I hope you guys spread the word because you all did spectacularly; I could cry. Hetalia fans sometimes have a less-than-stellar reputation, but this Hetalia Day, we were able to prove that we are
not just an obnoxious fandom, and
WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE IN THE WORLD. I am insanely proud of everyone who participated in the fundraiser, and I hope that, for next year, the coordinators of local events will consider fundraising as well. Not only is it for a fantastic cause -- providing food, medicine, and aid to needy children around the world -- but, as you all know, it makes you feel REALLY GOOD about yourself.
This year, we doubled attendance. Next year, let's double our contribution. It sounds a little ambitious, but I believe in you guys.
Finally, if you have any pictures you want to share with the community, post away! The community is moderated, but we're pretty lax about things. Can't wait to see the pictures everyone took, hope you all had an awesome time, and thanks again for making the world a better place. ♥
